Polar Bear

Mercury Music Prize nominees
Category: Barnstaple Fringe

Starts: Wednesday, June 04, 2008

One of the F-IRE Collective's success stories, Mercury Music Prize nominees Polar Bear combine the fervour of free jazz with the intensity of punk and are the most exciting development for years in post-jazz music.

Their unusual line-up features two tenor saxophones, bass and drums. Though a twin tenor frontline may sound risky, Pete Wareham's boisterous playing blends and contrasts with the measured sound of Mark Lockheart, whilst Rochford’s drums and Tom Herbert's bass grooves really get you in the chest. Together they defy categorisation and cross boundaries.
