09 December - AONB Photography Competition finalists decided and voting commences

The North Devon AONB’s Photographic Competition, Imagery with Meaning, started at the beginning of October and now that submissions have ended and all the entries have been scrutinised by a panel of photography experts, it’s up to the public to make the final decision as to who wins.

Proving a great success, the competition asked its entrants to submit expressive and charismatic images along with a small caption in return for a wide variety of prizes. J&A cameras are donating a £200 Digital Camera for the winner and a pair of binoculars for each category winner, while the AONB are using the winning image for their up coming 50th Anniversary promotional campaign.

Matthew Hensby from the AONB continues, “One of the main reasons why we organised the competition was to gain a better understanding of how people in the area feel about community relations and issues. The AONB is home to a wide array of intermingled lifestyles, some of which may not be apparent to others. The aim of this category was to encourage the submission of images that show the character of the region’s people.”

The competition is comprised of four categories; Day-to-Day in the AONB, Community Spirit, Our Built Environment and Memorable Locations. Having now been short listed down to 5 finalists per category, the winners of each category, and of the competition overall, comes down to a public vote. There are even prizes being given away to two lucky voters!

Voting will remain open now until 8th February 2009, and after the votes have been counted and the photographs printed and framed, all will be displayed in two exhibitions organised by North Devon Theatres. The first at the Queens Theatre, Barnstaple, from 23rd February until 21st March 2009 and the second in the Landmark Theatre, Ilfracombe, from 29th June until 24th August.
