If you don't have far to go, why not keep fit and healthy by walking or cycling. There is a comprehensive network of footpaths and cycle ways in North Devon.

 

Shopmobility

If you have a temporary or permanent mobility problem; or you are only able to walk short distances but still want to visit North Devon Festival events, then North Devon Community Transport Association has the answer. You can talk to them on 01271 328866.

North Devon Community Transport Association provides the loan of manual, powered wheelchairs or electric scooters to help anyone, local, visitor or tourist, with limited mobility to shop and enjoy the facilities of Barnstaple Town Centre, Ilfracombe and Lynmouth.

Also, hire a manual wheelchair for the weekend, days out or for your holiday.

North Devon Shopmobility is at: Albert Lane, Barnstaple EX32 8RL and there is a car park for clients. They are open Monday to Saturday from 09:15 to 16:15

Probably the most spectacular way to arrive in North Devon is to follow the South West Coast Path along the North Somerset and North Devon coasts to Lynton, Ilfracombe and then inland to Barnstaple and the other North Devon Festival 2008 locations.

By bicycle

The North Devon Festival 2008 area is well served by national and local cycle routes. Detailed maps and information here.

By car

From the east, North Devon is best reached along the A361 then the A39. This route is reached from Junction 27 on the M5. If you are travelling from the west or south the best access is via the A39 up through Bude or the A386 from Okehampton. Barnstaple offers a Park & Ride scheme - the car park is sign-posted off the A39.

Drivers in Devon are being offered a free DVD entitled ‘Eco-safe driving - Making A Difference’ or they can watch it on the County Council’s website at www.devon.gov.uk/ecodrivingfilm

By coach

National Express operate scheduled services from London, the Midlands and elsewhere to North Devon. More information here.

By train

North Devon is served by the Tarka Line from Exeter St David's to Barnstaple. One of the country’s prettiest scheduled train routes, it provides a beautiful entry to North Devon. Train schedules from your local station are available here.

By boat

If you are arriving by sea - then you will want mooring facilities. More information is available here (it is a site dealing with boat launching but includes contact details for mooring arrangements in Appledore, Instow, Watermouth Cove and Ilfracombe

By ferry

To and from Lundy Island there is a ferry based at Bideford Harbour. More information here.

From France, Brittany Ferries offer a regular service from Roscoff in Brittany to Plymouth. More information here.

By air

There are scheduled flights from Shannon, Eire and the Channel Islands to Exeter Airport and from Paris, Cork, Gatwick and other places in the UK to Plymouth Airport.
