Studio@QT

“Studio@QT will be a new and highly enjoyable experience for our audiences, where we can produce and present drama and music at a smaller scale than we have been able to do so far. All the events will be more informal than before and inexpensive,
but still maintaining high artistic quality with our usual strong technical support.

What we’re promoting here is a complete experience, a place to kick-back, relax and socialise whilst also being entertained, inspired and challenged by some great performances.”

Alan Giddings, Chief Executive of North Devon Theatres

Studio@QT is a vibrant new small-scale space - a ‘venue within a venue’ within the auditorium at the Queen’s Theatre in Barnstaple – an all new exciting performance space, that will quickly become known for its cutting edge/experimental performances, it's diverse theatre and music programme and inviting club-style ambience. The venue will also be home to standup@thestudio - a bi-monthly comedy club.

The aim of Studio@QT is to provide high quality, accessible and affordable productions for North Devon and beyond, with a programme of and dynamic new writing. Studio@QT really will set a whole new scene for Barnstaple and beyond. It will offer a different place to dance, laugh, scream, be inspired and entertained.

A performance space modelled along club lines, customers will be able to enjoy drinks throughout the evening in an intimate and cosy bar area and during the performances, where all seating will be unallocated.

The shows here will be anything but ‘cosy’ ranging from genre defying small scale theatre and music to clever, edgy and thought provoking comedy, with Stand Up @ the studio - North Devon Theatres is determined to programme artists and companies that challenge the traditional boundaries of theatre, music, comedy and performance and also to showcase up-and-coming acts.

Inside the auditorium, a specially commissioned curtain hangs from the outer edge of the dress circle, effectively turning a large venue into an intimate 200 seater one, which can be adapted to suit a wide variety of theatre presentations, including theatrical productions, experimental performance and music theatre.

Although seating is unallocated, customers with specific access requirements should contact our Box Office by email or by telephoning 01271 32 42 42 in advance.
