Education and the Theatres

The North Devon Theatres Trust does not simply present performances - it is deeply committed to developing a wider understanding and appreciation of the arts.

As part of this work - aimed at young and old alike - the Theatres run various schemes and activities to encourage people to find out more about the Theatres themselves; to become involved in performances; to meet players and performers; to take part, with the cast, in discussions about plays; to participate in workshops and other activities with theatre and dance companies.

We believe in helping young people realise their arts potential by gaining experience in our various schemes and projects. By participating in Make the Move Classes and our workshops, it is possible to get further involved in residencies, performances (including being selected for the junior cast in our professional pantomimes), theatre trips and work experiences.

These events are co-ordinated by our Education Officer, Carol Turner.

The 29th May 1961 Charitable Trust and The Elmgrant Trust are supporters of our 09/10 education programme.

La-La-Voices
Discover your Rhythm of Life

If you’ve ever wanted to take your bathtime vocals to a professional stage now is your chance!  North Devon Theatres & Museum in partnership with LINK are putting together a choral project for complete beginners and experienced singers aged 18 and above. This will be a chance to meet with new people and experience the joy of a good old sing song. With pieces from yester-year and modern day composers and artists there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

Come and sing with us!  Anyone can do it, even if you’ve never sung before. This is a community experience  that anyone join in with. What we will sing depends on YOU. It could be a familiar choral piece or a rock/pop classic. Who knows? It’s for you to decide along with our Musical Director but there will be something for everyone to enjoy. These fun workshops will be held in a relaxed atmosphere at the Landmark Theatre leading to a public performance in March. Come along either once or twice a week for a two hour sing-a-long followed by a light lunch and refreshments. As well as having fun with the singing, you will also get the chance to meet new people.

SmashEd
May/June 2010

A chance for boys to participate in an exciting physical theatre project.
Our young men will create a site specific dance theatre work responding to their own youth culture and our amazing Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Ilfracombe.
Working with Benjamin Dunks and Nix Rosewarne from Wildworks (an international theatre company based in Cornwall), we are looking for young men aged 10+ who are interested in finding out more about physical theatre and site specific work. No dance or theatre experience is necessary; all we ask is that you have an open and enquiring mind and a willingness to try new and dynamic performance techniques.
