Mike Bernard almost exclusively paints in mixed-media, combining collage, acrylics and pastel, developing semi-abstract images of fishing boats, harbours, markets and street scenes.

Born in Kent in 1957, award winning Mike Bernard trained at West Surrey College of Art and Design, Farnham, followed by Post Graduate studies at the Royal Academy Schools, London. Since then he has exhibited widely in London and the Provinces, was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in 1997. He moved to Devon in 2007.

Mike enjoys experimenting with media and techniques, often using mixed-media, incorporating collage and acrylics. He has used paper collage for about 20 years and has developed a highly original style of his own.

Mike is about to have a book published on his work, called ‘Collage, Colour and Texture in Painting’ in April 2010.

He has also converted his old stone barns into holiday cottages and studio’s, where he occasionally offers tuition and demonstrations. For more information about this see www.visitnutcombe.com
