A North Devon Theatres Education Production in Association with
The Paper Birds Theatre Company
Presented by young actors from North Devon Theatres working with The Paper Birds Theatre Company, this original-devised work tackles the issues of teenage pregnancy.
‘The Paper Birds proves itself an accomplished company, capable of devising highly inventive and relevant work.’ The Stage
This is a unique drama experience for young people who have an interest in theatre and social issues. For one week, the education department of North Devon Theatres, in conjunction with The Paper Birds Theatre Company, will be examining the subject of teenage pregnancy, using real life stories to devise an original theatre piece to be performed publicly at the Landmark Theatre.
The Paper Birds (who last year brought us Thirsty), strive to create and share devised work that is important; work that is culturally, socially and politically observational and conversationally urgent. Their workshops offer young people the opportunity to work with professional artists, gaining basic acting skills and techniques as well as creating original dramatic work. Participants will learn, build their skills, confidence and imagination as well as have fun and make new friends.
We are looking for 20 young drama enthusiasts (10 male and 10 female), aged 13 – 18 and two musicians (working with a composer creating an original score/soundscape for the production). If performing isn’t your thing, we will also be looking for five young people to form our production team; responsible for props, scenery, costume, lighting design, script recording, sound and marketing.
We aren’t looking for people with theatrical experience, we are looking for young people with mature and creative minds… this will be an experience they will always treasure and never forget.
